Why a beer guy will change your wine business
I'll be honest with you: I'm a beer guy.
Give me an imperial stout or hoppy IPA over a Burgundy any day. I can tell you more about brewing temperatures than terroir. And I've never used the word "tannic" in casual conversation.
So why the h**l have I founded a software for sommeliers and wine?
Because after spending countless hours with restaurateurs, bartenders and sommeliers I kept hearing the same frustrations: wine management is a pain.
I'm Andreas Carlsson, and I've been designing and building digital products for over two decades. I've led UX and design teams in both Sweden and the US. I've spent the last 5 years working with design and software in the restaurant sector. Now, I'm launching Bartend.io under my own design studio, Nofont.
The background
During my freelance work and research interviews with restaurants across Sweden, I watched sommeliers juggle spreadsheets, manually update different systems, and spend hours each week on tasks that should take minutes. Some restaurants updates their inventory daily, others monthly. Some need detailed reporting, others not.
But they all share the same unflexible and painfull work: copying data from Excel to Word to the POS system and back. Triple data entry just to keep wine inventory up to date.
The wine world deserves better tools. And as someone who's spent 20+ years designing products for humans, I know Bartend is that better tool.
Built with real restaurants
Bartend is built from dozens of conversations with working sommeliers across Sweden — from Restaurang Ekstedt and Restaurant Jord to Stadsvakten and Pet Sounds Bar.
